Sea of Thieves will officially set sail on Battle.net later this month, but first, a closed beta test starts today for Deluxe or Premium game owners. The Rare team also announced a hotfix and a rollback to Kraken changes.
The closed beta test is live now through Monday, May 5th. If you bought one of the qualifying editions of the game, you can log into Battle.net and install the game right now and jump in to get a taste of Season 15 while it’s still going. Since all closed beta progress will be persistent and continue through the Battle.net release on May 22nd, you can go ahead and get a head start on your pirate adventures . You can also enjoy preorder bonuses early, And since the servers will be the same as all of their platforms, if you got friends in the game already, you can team up with them.
One thing you won’t find during this test, is a very aggressive spawn frequency for the Kraken. The team intended to move the Kraken encounter from a more exclusive “Main Event” in the world events rotation and instead have it in the world alongside other world events. This was also intended to also improve performance and the world event rotation.
However, today the team rolled back those changes because the result of the initial tweak made this Kraken spawn rather aggressively. So, the waters will be a relative pinch safer as they’ve returned the Kraken to its original status and will work on making this change in the future in a way that functions better. They’re also working to continue trying to resolve other issues and re-enable faction battles.
