Embers Adrift is now running on Unity 6, and the team has an update on Steam payment issues, saying they’ll move away from subscriptions in favor of blocks of time.
Stormhaven Studios updated the engine, and the first big change is a widening of dynamic resolution options in the graphics settings. now you can choose from Unity’s STP (Spatial-Temporal Post-Processing), FSR2 (AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution 2), and Nvidia DLSS. We should also see improved performance with the engine upgrade, and more new tools will be on the way.
The team also made NPC ability use more visible. This is the first pass on these tweaks, starting with control-based effects like confuse and snare, to make it easier to interrupt NPCs as needed. Some even got new animations as a result.
The patch notes show off a number of examples of these enemy improvements, and the team promises we’ll see more of the NPC visual effects improvements going forward.
Recently, with the migration to Steam, there have been some glitches related to subscription payments. All subscriber perks were freely available to all Embers Adrift owners over the past weekend while they worked on the issues, and will remain free to Steam players while they change the system from subscriptions to “blocks of perk time for purchase”. If you were someone who was awaiting subscription payment refunds, that would be converted into equivalent game time perks when the system is live.
