The world of Sky: Children of the Light, a free MMORPG compatible across consoles, PC and mobile platforms, will get more lore with two original origin movies in-game.
In Sky, we already know that players are sent out to navigate a wrecked world using capes, with items giving these players and their capes more capacity to fly further. Now, we’re getting a more rounded origin story about how this world came to be.
“Told without dialogue, The Two Embers: Part One follows the journey of an orphaned child and a wounded manatee as they navigate a world unraveling under the threat of darkness,” a press release explains. The “Two Embers” in the title supposedly references the main characters of each part, who will each get their own story.
These screenings will start on July 21 “across four weekly chapters,” as the official site explains. Plus, on top of the movie release, there’ll also be in-game content in Sky accompanying the movie.
Crafted in thatgamecompany’s signature style—visually stunning, emotionally resonant, and grounded in human connection—The Two Embers marks the studio’s most ambitious transmedia storytelling endeavor to date. For the first time, players will not only watch the origin story of Sky—they’ll step into it. Each chapter will be accompanied by all-new in-game content, designed to deepen the emotional and narrative resonance of the film through exploration and play.”
Co-produced by Light & Realm, Illusorium Studios and Orchid, the movie will be shown using Sky’s technology that ran the in-game Aurora concert, which will be making a brief return this summer as well. Plus, more anniversary surprises are supposedly to come, according to a “road map” earlier this year.
