Pax Dei’s Path of the Adventurer (Verse 3) update will make some big changes, as Mainframe recently announced its RPG and combat reworks to add structured (but still flexible) combat roles, and depth and meaning to combat and gear. The announcement got lots of feedback and many questions, and the team is responding and clarifying a few things.
The new resource, Spirit, is exclusively for spells cast directly, with armor, healing staffs, or weapon special attacks. Stamina will remain for physical actions, like blocking, gathering, jumping, and swimming. The other main difference is: “Stamina: Small pool, fast regeneration. Spirit: Large pool, slow regeneration”.
Healing Staff does have a weak attack but it’s generally a support weapon for group play (though you could solo). Having this linked to Spirit makes sense. It also shows some of how combat role identity is taking shape. Gear is also important as it will scale with combat skill and each weapon type will have three tailored abilities.
Mainframe continues to emphasize that this is structure, not rigidity. “This system supports roles like tank, healer, and DPS, without locking you in,” they say.
You can mix and match different items from different armor types to take advantage of their stats and spells. Each armor type and slot will have its own combat skill, and gear will have minimum combat skill requirements. Combat XP will be shared across party members and their equipped gear, with veteran enemies offering more.
Items will now have rarity levels: common, uncommon, and rare, and sigils will be needed to craft some new items but common items will not require relics. Mainframe promises a deep dive on all the crafting changes soon.
