EVE Online’s Largest Player-Run PvP Event Is Back This Weekend And Is Handing Out Free Ships To Blow Up

EVE players looking for a bit of fun at next to no risk can jump into the biggest player-run PVP event, as the alliance A Band Apart is hosting their 11th annual Frigate Free For All event in the system of Amamake.

Kicking off Saturday, March 29th (so tomorrow), players can jump into the system of Amamake and get some free frigates to…well…blow up. This annual event has consistently broken its own records each year, and this year the alliance looks to be trying to blow them up again. With over 10K full fitting frigates up for grabs, it’s a great event to get some juicy killmails without risking your own hulls.
Or, if you’re a new player wanting to get your bearings in a free for all brawl, this event is very much for you (it’s how I got my first ever taste of PvP years ago).
Via the official announcement from A Band Apart leader Rixx Javix:

“This annual event has consistently broken records year after year for destruction, chaos, and fights across all of Low Security space – but our primary goal remains the same – to give any player in Eve the chance to fly a Frigate in combat for nearly zero risk. If you’ve never experienced large scale combat before, or even 1v1 PvP, then this event is for you. Free ships to undock and enjoy. And you never know what or who might show up in local. In the past we’ve had Nags, Marshals, Revelations, Orcas, Carriers, Dreads, you name it and they’ve been exploded – so who knows what might show up this year.”

We’ve written about the event before, and I should note that I am a member of Stay Frosty, one of the alliance Corporations invovled in the event’s organization (though I personally have no hand in any of it). It’s a great chance to really get in there and get blown up, blow some other ships up, and learn how PvP operates in real time, especially as the TiDi starts to take over as the nearly 6 hour event goes on tomorrow. It’s great to see it still going on, especially since the politics and warfare going on in lowsec put the entire event in jeopardy back in 2022.
Just please: no smartbombs.
In the meantime, if you’re looking for some EVE Online news to listen to while you’re making your way to the system, CCP Games has launched a new developer show to talk all things EVE Online. Called the New Eden Review Dev Show (or NERDS), the first episode kicked off earlier this week, streaming first to Twitch and then uploaded to podcast services and YouTube soon after. It’s definitely an interesting format, and I’ll be eager to see how this show goes, but early reception on the YouTube comments looks good. Give it a listen, especially if you’ve always wanted some additional context from the developers as to why they may have done specific update the way they did.
