Elden Ring Movie Adaptation Announced With ‘Ex Machina,’ ‘Annihiliation’ and ‘Warfare’ Filmmaker At Helm

Bandai Namco has announced that its smash RPG hit Elden Ring will be getting a film adaptation, produced by the massive indie studio A24 and helmed by Alex Garland.
Alex Garland is a celebrated director and writer in indie and mid-scale movies, responsible for the sci-fi psychological drama “Ex Machina,” the adaptation of the Lovecraftian sci-fi “Annihilation,” the recent war retelling “Warfare,” and in writing the zombie classic “28 Days Later” as well as its upcoming sequel “28 Years Later.”

While George R.R. Martin is stated as being involved in the project in some capacity, based on Alex Garland’s description as a “writer and director,” Martin will probably not take a primary showrunning role here. It seems Martin’s role was mostly worldbuilding and myth-building, as opposed to direct writing, so we’ll at least see his influence throughout, if the Elden Ring movies stay true to the game.
No details about a release timeline, production nor casting have been announced yet.
In the meantime, Elden Ring is getting the Nightreign spin-off game on May 30, which lets players cooperate to beat up even more giant bosses.
