Bungie’s long dormant IP, Marathon, is getting ready for its time in the spotlight, as the Destiny developer has officially teased its upcoming gameplay reveal for the team-based shooter.
It’s been a few decades since Bungie has dusted off the Marathon IP, and it seems like it’s going to be a nice change of pace fo the Destiny studio, as Marathon is poised to launch as a team-based extraction shooter. The first new project in decades following the success of both Halo and the Destiny franchise, Marathon launches after the success of Destiny, but also after a period of turmoil at the developer, with the Bungie team being hit with layoffs, with 220 people let go just last July.
In a “Save the Date” trailer, we get a glimpse at the world of Marathon, though not much else. I am very, very curious how the loop feels, and especially interested in how Bungie plans to differentiate Marathon from the glut of extraction shooters that have hit the market in the wake of Escape From Tarkov’s success.
Thankfully, we shouldn’t have too much longer to wait to learn more, as the Bungie team will be hosting a gameplay reveal stream April 12th at 10am PDT/1pm EDT over on the Marathon Twitch, YouTube and TikTok channels.
