Black Desert Console Native PS5 and Xbox Series Versions Finally Have A Release Date, Coming June 26th

The current gen consoles are finally getting a native version of Black Desert, with Pearl Abyss releasing PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X versions this June. However, this does spell the end of the last generation console versions.

The current generation consoles are effectively using backwards compatible versions of the PS4 and Xbox One games to run on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X. We know that Pearl Abyss has been working on these native versions for some time now, though, and with a release date of June 26th current owners of the console versions will get the upgrade for free.

The native current generation versions will bring better performance and more stability to the console version, but as a result Pearl Abyss wil be sunsetting the older versions of the console MMO. Stating that the sunset is “partially driven by hardware limitations,” this will allow the team to move “closer to parity across all platforms.”
Via this morning’s press release:

“Post-launch, Black Desert Console will shift to an exclusive PS5 and Xbox Series X|S service, sunsetting support for previous generation consoles. This transition, partially driven by hardware limitations hindering the delivery of the latest content, aims to enhance stability and performance for players, ultimately moving closer to content parity across all platforms. “

Cross play will still work between Xbox and Playstation versions, and players shouldn’t worry about losing their existing characters as Pearl Abyss is promising “seamless data transfer,” but we’ll have more details as to exactly how all this will work closer to the June 26th launch date.
