Funcom has revealed lots about Dune: Awakening’s mid- and endgame content in their last pre-launch developer stream.
While the recent beta weekend featured early game content, and 25% of the Hagga Basin, the team took us on a tour of much more of the zone. There’s a lot more to explore when the game launches on June 10th / June 5th for those with a head start. Unlock times have already been revealed.
After some beta review, we get an overview of choosing who to align with, building, and exploration, as well as combat in Dune: Awakening. We shift to mid-game crafting, knowledge, brand new locations, and much more very quickly.
This is a survival game at its core. Funcom introduces the buggy, which is a vehicle that will unlock and let you mine resources directly from the vehicle itself. As you progress, resource demands for everything you learn will go up and get tougher, but tools like this will help you gather those resources more efficiently. Tune into the full stream to watch all of this and understand more about building and infrastructure as well as exploration and new locations.
We also get a taste of participation in The Landsraad. In fact we get to see a full cycle of how you can impact your faction in a way that suits your desired playstyle, with PvE and PvP options.
We get to check out the Deep Desert too. As far as endgame goes, there are lots of dangers, from other players to Coriolis storms. Yet with weekly resets planned, the terrain here will always be shifting. Prepare to capture control points and take advantage of spice blows by defending Harvesters. While the game is set in a literal sandbox on Arrakis, it is also a sandbox mechanically, so everything the team showed off definitely backs up all the choices you’ll have.
Finally, the last bit of the stream is a Q&A where the team answers questions about playstyle, options, how to succeed if you don’t necessarily want to be a loyal faction adherent, and much more.
