Super Earth is free once again from the threat of foreign aliens, thanks to the hard work of Helldivers and their SEAF allies. In-game communications in Helldivers 2 announced the narrow victory of Super Earth over the invading Illuminate threat, a war which took place over ten real-time days through the Heart of Democracy update.
As you may recall—or may have experienced, if you’re a true defender of Super Earth and all it stands for—the shockingly super-intelligent Illuminate, which they now believe are former Super Earth denizens turned zombies, were able to get a jump on the planet. As part of the in-game activities, players could fight along SEAF soldiers from also-present citizens of the cities.
Per the official in-game Major Order summary, Helldivers were only able to weaken forces in Eagleopolis before it fell, though defense forces held strong in Remembrance and Equality-On-Sea. In the next phase, the Administrative Center 02 was hit, and with it Remembrance fell. They activated, uh… (checks notes) the last remaining rainforests on Super Earth to convert them into tactical airstrips? But that wasn’t enough, and into Phase 3, York Supreme and Port Mercy fell.
In that last phase, Helldivers fighting the Automatons were able to re-activate the Democracy Space Station, which boosted capabilities and permitted the last successful defense of Prosperity City and Equality-On-Sea against the Illuminate.
However, none of this was without major losses—it seems President Kia of Super Earth was one of the biggest casualties, as he died “defending the Presidential Security bunker with only a pistol against waves of Illuminate foes.” The Ministry of Defense has stepped in in the interim, which is totally not foreboding or anything for a military-heavy nation.
You know what else isn’t foreboding? The fact that the sector of the map where the Illuminate once was an option is just gone, after only being introduced this past December. Basically, the future of the Helldivers 2 universe—rather, the galaxies under Super Earth’s dominion of Managed Democracy—is up in the air, and players are waiting to see where it goes next.
