Recent DDoS attacks on NCSoft’s MMORPGs have reached a boiling point where NC America’s CEO, Jeonghee “JJ” Jin, has released a letter on the matter. This post is available on the sites for both Blade & Soul and Lineage 2.
This message acknowledges the DDoS attacks with vigor, calling them “the largest our company has ever seen.”
“These attacks are a form of individual/corporate espionage,” it reads. “They’ve been relentless and destructive. Each time we identify and squash an attack, the anonymous party changes its attack patterns, and we start over again. They’re damaging not only to you, but to us.”
Jin stresses that the team is working around the clock to mitigate the issue and blatantly calls these attacks a “crime.” The letter also states, “Several of our industry colleagues have experienced similar DDoS attacks as well.”
World of Warcraft has experienced DDoS attacks lately, as recently as yesterday. Plus, Final Fantasy 14 has seen them intermittently on and off, though as a player myself, those have been less frustratingly frequent than they once were.
