Rockstar Games has announced that Grand Theft Auto VI’s release window has been pushed back from this autumn 2025—though now we have a proper release date.
The announcement comes quite early relative to its previously anticipated fall 2025 release, thankfully, though this is despite previous optimism from the CEO about that window.
Thanks to this press release, though, we know that GTA 6 will come out on May 26, 2026—just over a year from now.
“With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception,” the message to Rockstar’s social media reads. “We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”

In the meantime, GTA 5 players (at least, the ones on PC) can hopefully keep themselves preoccupied with the free major update that brought plenty of console-exclusive features and activities to the PC client (but apparently not to the benefit of Steam Deck players).
