Pax Dei Outlines First Of Sweeping Changes Coming To Crafting In Upcoming Massive Update

The Pax Dei team has a new devblog on the “Path of the Adventurer”, describing what they’re aiming to do with the sandbox survival MMORPG’s integral crafting system.

The team outlines four goals in these changes: “easier onboarding,” “real complexity, not confusion,” “smarter dependencies,” and “better pacing.” In short, it looks like they aim to streamline the crafting experience, and not just make it clunkier and convoluted for the sake of illusioned complexity, from start to endgame.
As for what this practically means, there’ll be a lot of reworking of the minute details of the systems, with the heaviest changes coming to tailoring, leatherworking, and blacksmithing. They’ll be better specializing gear for combat roles, plus creating more intermediate materials to tailor (literally) to the new tiered gear system they’re working on. Plus, new tools will be coming to help work this gear the way players want them.
If these changes outlined in the official news post seem like a lot, that’s because they know it is—it’s big enough that this update will come with a full game wipe.
