The upcoming Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds unveiled a trailer at Summer Game Fest that announced that it’d be including guest characters the Yakuza franchise’s Ichiban Kasuga, Persona 5’s Joker, and vocal synthesizer, pop star and cultural legend Hatsune Miku, plus what appears to be a Minecraft character set and track. There’s a “walks into a bar” joke somewhere from this headline, but more to the point, it’s correct.
Yes, most of this combination of characters does, indeed, make sense—these are all technically characters owned or, in Miku’s case, licensed under the Sega publisher label. (Technically, Hatsune Miku isn’t even a video game character first and foremost, but that’s beside the point.)
As for Minecraft, some say Hatsune Miku owns Minecraft, so surely she was involved in the negotiations. (This is a joke.)
It’s implied from the official set that these characters will be part of buyable DLC. Sonic Racing: Crossworlds is set to launch soon, though there’s no release date.
